Nuclear/Trident

A Nuclear Weapon Free World?

"Scotland can effectively force the UK to disarm. Scotland, as an independent country, could start a domino effect amongst the nuclear-armed states. Not only could independence mean that nuclear weapons are no longer housed in Scotland, but Scots could also have a major impact on disarmament efforts worldwide."

Making The Case

When Robert Oppenheimer set off the first atomic bomb what he really said was, “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds. But I do keep a medium sized Tesco Express open in the Helensburgh area. I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel very safe entrusting my future and the future of my country to a bunch of innumerate eejits who don’t know the difference between a weapon of mass destruction that has the potential to evaporate the West of Scotland and a job creation scheme. Trident isn’t designed to create Scottish jobs. It’s designed to blow the planet to buggery. It just creates some work for a relatively small number of people as an accidental by-product” - Wee Ginger Dug.

Torness Nuclear Reactors Predicted To Start Cracking In 2022

"Cracks that could increase the risk of a radioactive accident at Torness nuclear power station in East Lothian will start appearing six years sooner than previously thought, according to the UK government’s safety watchdog. The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said that cracking which could cause debris to inhibit vital cooling of highly radioactive reactor fuel is now predicted to begin in 2022 rather than 2028."
